Preserving Victor Harbor's History

for Over 40 Years

Since opening our doors, we’ve been preserving and sharing the rich history and culture of Victor Harbor and the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Our Story

The National Trust Museum has been a cornerstone of Victor Harbor’s cultural landscape for over 40 years. As part of the National Trust of South Australia, we’re dedicated to conserving and celebrating places of historical, architectural, and cultural significance.

Our museum is home to two remarkable buildings. The first houses our main exhibition space, filled with displays that tell the story of the Ramindjeri people, European exploration, whaling, the railway era, and Victor Harbor’s transformation into a beloved seaside resort.

The second building, our Heritage House, built in 1866. It served as the residence and office of Victor Harbor’s first Harbour Master, who collected customs and managed the colony’s primary port. Later, it became home to the railway station master during Victor Harbor’s heyday as a holiday destination for Adelaide’s elite.

Today, this beautifully preserved building allows visitors to step back in time and experience life as it was in colonial South Australia.

Our Mission

We exist to make history accessible, engaging, and inspiring for everyone who walks through our doors.

Whether you’re a curious local, a family on holiday, a school group, or a passionate history enthusiast, we want you to leave with a deeper appreciation for the people, events, and stories that shaped this region.

We achieve this through interactive displays, carefully curated exhibits, and a warm welcome from our dedicated team of volunteers.

What Makes Us Different

The Complete Story

We’re the only museum in the region that tells the full story of Victor Harbor, from the Ramindjeri First Nations people through European settlement, whaling, the railway boom, and the resort era.

Exclusive Exhibits

Our interactive shipwreck display is the only one of its kind in South Australia, showcasing artefacts and stories from the state’s first recorded maritime disaster.

Living History

The Heritage House isn’t just a display. It’s a time capsule. Six rooms authentically decorated to reflect life in the bygone days and also the first public toilet in Victor Harbor.

Recognised Locally and Nationally

We’re honoured to have been recognised for our contribution to South Australian heritage and tourism.
